Hope Johnston

Hope Johnston will begin her first year as a member of head coach Tammy Swearingen’s women’s volleyball staff in 2023. She brings a combined five years of coaching experience from the collegiate, high school and club levels.

Since 2021 Johnston has served as an assistant at Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana where she helped coordinate the team’s recruiting, equipment and travel needs while offering strategic insights in practice and competition. She also had responsibilities in developing opponent scouting reports and organizing film sessions.

Johnston spent three years (2018-21) as a coach with the Frisco Flyers Volleyball Club in Frisco, Texas where she helped with day-to-day scheduling along with practice and event planning. She also worked to improve club networking while continuing to build relationships with athletes and top volleyball clubs across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Johnston helped lead the program to a pair of girl’s junior national championship bids in 2019.

Johnson, a Plano, Texas native, earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Oklahoma in 2018. She spent two years as a member of the Sooners’ rowing team and was a part of the program’s runner-up finish at the 2015 Big 12 Championship.

In high school, Johnston was a member of the varsity volleyball program at Plano East and competed with the Nortex Volleyball Club for four years. She was a member of the team that qualified for both the 2011 and 2013 Junior National Volleyball Championship and was part of the bronze medal team at the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) National Championships in 2012.
