Jerry Hare

Jerry Hare will enter his ninth year as an assistant women’s soccer coach for the Titans in 2025. Hare brings 34 years of coaching experience with specialty in goalkeeping to the women’s soccer program. He also spent the last eight years working as a goalkeeper coach with the men’s soccer program.

In 2018, he was a part the men’s soccer coaching staff that helped direct the team to win President Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship match 1-0 against Grove City and first round appearance to the NCAA DIII Soccer Tournament in which, I helped senior AJ Bove ranked third in PAC in goals against average (1.19) and made 71 saves with 0.780 save percentage. The Titans only conceded 7 goals against conference foes in the regular season. Hare was also a part the women’s soccer coaching staff that helped direct the team to a PAC Championship runner-up finish and an appearance to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament and again in 2021, in which he helped senior Camille Holzschuh rank first in the PAC in goals-against average (0.55) and broke the program record for career shutouts with 25. The Titans only conceded one goal against conference foes in the regular season.
 
In 2022, Hare helped freshman Morgan Murphy to a successful season, which she started all 20 matches for Westminster, going 14-4-2 while posting a league-low .697 goals-against average. Murphy totaled 90 saves and owned a .874 save percentage, which ranked 24th in Division III. In 10 regular season conference starts she went 9-1 with a 0.44 goals-against average. She led the conference with seven shutouts last fall, including four in league play. She was named as the PAC Newcomer of the Year award and the championship tournament's Most Outstanding Player following Westminster's 2-0 shutout of Franciscan in the title match, in which, she made 12 saves against Franciscan after recording seven saves and stopping three shootout attempts during the 1-1 semifinal draw with Chatham.
 
In 2023, Hare helped sophomore Murphy to another successful season, which she started all 18 matches for the Titans last season, going 13-4. Her .707 goals-against average (GAA) and .876 save percentage rank second in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) while her 78 saves were fourth in the league. Murphy had three shutouts (4 combined shutouts) last fall. She was named the PAC Defensive Player of the Week twice (Sept. 18, 25) last season, Murphy was named a United Soccer Coaches Division III All-Region VII First Team pick on Nov. 28. She has started 38-straight matches and has 10 career shutouts. Her 0.70 career GAA currently ranks 23rd among active Division III leaders. Murphy secured Third Team All-America honors. Westminster posted an 8-2 PAC record and earned the No. 2 seed in this year's PAC Championship Tournament, losing to No. 6 Franciscan 2-1 in the semifinal round. The Titans finished their season 14-4. 
 
In 2024, Westminster Women’s Soccer completed another winning season, finished the regular season in first place with 9-0-1 record in the President Athletic Conference but lost in a tough championship game against Grove City in PAC Tournament with score of 4-3. Westminster Women’s Soccer ended with an overall record of 11-6-1. For the third year in a row, Hare helped Junior Morgan Murphy to another outstanding season, who spearheaded Westminster's defensive effort that finished with five shutouts and limited its opponents to a 1.88 goals per game average in 2024. In nine PAC regular season appearances (8 starts), Murphy went 8-0-1 with a 0.77 goals-against average (GAA). She claimed United Soccer Coaches All-America honors last December, securing a spot on the Third Team. In 51 career starts, Murphy owns a 36-13-2 record while sporting a 1.00 GAA, a .841 save percentage and 13 shutouts. She is Westminster's second-straight PAC Defensive Player of the Year selection.
 
Hare is the Founder and Director of the Hare Goalkeeper Academy, which provides year-round education and training to young goalkeepers, ages 7-22 in western Pennsylvania and the surrounding areas.
 
Hare is also the Head Soccer Coach for Shady Side Academy Middle School 7th and 8th Grade Coed Soccer and spent the past 25 years as Varsity Assistant Soccer Coach at Shady Side Academy (SSA), primarily working with the boys’ and girls’ goalkeepers. He helped lead the girls’ varsity team to the WPIAL Class A Championship victories in 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 and finished as a runner-up in WPIAL Class A in 2017 and WPIAL Class AA in 2005, 2006 and 2023. The girls also finished as a runner-up in the PIAA State Championship game in 2016, 2019. His girls’ team won the 2017 PIAA State Class A Championship for the first time in school history. He helped lead the boys to the WPIAL Class A and AA Finals in 2002, 2006, 2008, 2016, 2020 and won the WPIAL Championship in 2017 and 2018. His boys finished in third place in 2019 and 2023 in WPIAL Class AA consolation game.
 
In 1990 as a volunteer goalkeeper coach, he helped lead Hampton High School Boys Soccer to the WPIAL and PIAA Class AA Championship victories. The GAA (goal-against average) for the season was 0.26 (only 7 goals allowed in 27 games)
 
His personal philosophy is to build a motivating and positive environment for growth and development through dedication, hard work, and teamwork. Hare holds NSCAA National Diploma and NSCAA National Goalkeeper Diploma. He is a certified CPR Trainer and Sport Safety Trainer from American Red Cross.
