Matt Torrence

Matt Torrence '93 begins his 10th season as the Westminster men's head golf coach and sixth season as the women’s head golf coach for the 2022-23 seasons.
 
Torrence, a six-time Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Coach of the Year in total, has coached the Titans to unprecedented success.
 
Under Torrence’s guidance, the women’s team has won four-straight PAC Championships – the most consecutive PAC Titles in program history. Torrence has led the women to three trips to the NCAA Division III Championships, including the program’s first-ever in the 2019-20 season. At the 2020-21 NCAAs, Westminster finished 21st place with a three-day score of 1055 (+191) – all program-bests at NCAAs. In the 2021-22 Nationals, the Titans placed 27th with a three-day score of 1043.
 
The 2020-21 men’s team, under the tutelage of Torrence, had their most successful year in program history as they won the PAC Championship (first since the 2004-05 season) and placed ninth at the NCAA Championship - the best finish ever by a PAC team at NCAAs. Sophomore Team MVP Calen Cummins finished 26th – the best individual finisher at NCAAs in program history. The Titans went undefeated in the regular season and finished the year ranked No. 17 in the country - the school’s first national ranking. In 2021-22, the Titans claimed the PAC crown again and finished 28th with a two-day score of 637.
 
Torrence has coached four PAC Player of the Year honorees: Erika Hoover (2021-22), Kasey Clifford (2020-21 and 2019-20) and Kelsey Phillips 2018-19).
 
A former Titan golfer, Torrence previously served as the head boys' golf coach at Hampton High School.
 
Torrence graduated from Westminster with a bachelor's degree in political science and a minor in business. He and his wife, Leigh, reside in Pittsburgh. They have two sons, Bradley and Nick '18.
