Ryan Protzman enters his second season in 2020-21 as an assistant coach on the cross country team and the track & field team as the throws coach.
In his time as a coach, Protzman has established himself as one of the premier throws coaches in the area and has guided many athletes to success over his coaching career.
From 2010 to 2019, Protzman was the throws coach at Moniteau High School. Under Protzman's guidance, 88 athletes became District Qualifiers, 50 athletes earned District medals and nine athletes became District Champions during Protzman's stint at Moniteau. Protzman has also boasted 15 national qualifiers, one PIAA State Champion in the Discus and one All-American in the Javelin as a coach.
Before his coaching career, Protzman was a standout athlete in football and track & field at Thiel College. Protzman won the Discus at the 2007 PAC Track & Field Championships with a personal record throw of 5.02 meters. Protzman also finished fourth in the Shot Put and sixth in the Javelin at PAC's in his career.
In high school, Protzman made an appearance at the 2006 PIAA State Championships, where he finished fifth in the Shot Put and tenth in the Discus, two events where he was named first team all-conference. Protzman was also a first team all-conference selection in three positions (tight end, linebacker, punter) in football at Moniteau.
Protzman earned his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Activity & Fitness Management from Slippery Rock University in 2019.
