Misty Motter

Misty Motter was promoted to head athletic trainer on July 12, 2025. Motter replaces Shaun Toomey, who is retiring this summer after a 38-year run with the College.

Motter will provide oversight of the athletics medical unit, including the day-to-day operation of the training room, working with team physicians and sports medicine staff while supervising the daily care, rehabilitation and prevention of athletic injuries for all Westminster student-athletes.

The current sports medicine staff consists of Motter and assistant athletic trainers Jillian Herrick and Meghan Hawthorne. Herrick started at Westminster in 2022 and Hawthorne came on board last fall. The College is currently searching for a fourth member of the athletic training staff. Motter enters her 21st year at Westminster this fall. She started in 2004 as an assistant trainer contracted through the Sharon Regional Health System before joining the College's sports medicine team as associate trainer in 2006. She has also served as an adjunct professor in the Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program at Youngstown State University. 

Credentialed by the Board of Certification (BOC), Motter is a Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT) and Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) authorized to practice in Pennsylvania. Certified through the American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) Professional Rescuers program, she is a Licensed Training Provider (LTP) of American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, AED training for the lay rescuer and professional and Basic Life Support (BLS) rescuer. Motter also serves as a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) responder through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.

She is a member of the National Athletic Training Association (NATA), the College Athletic Trainers Society (CATS) and Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers' Society (PATS). Motter earned a bachelor's degree in physical education and sport with an emphasis in athletic training from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2003 and a master's degree in education from Westminster in 2014.

Motter and her husband, Mathew, have two sons: Nolan and Noah. They reside in Enon Valley, Pa.
