Miller will begin his first season as the defensive coordinator in 2018.
Miller, a graduate from Clarion University ’92, has 13 years’ experience in the National Football League (NFL). Millers first job in the NFL was as an offensive assistant in 1999 with the Pittsburgh Steelers under then head coach Bill Cowher. From there, he served as a tight ends coach with the Buffalo Bills in 2004, before moving to the desert and becoming the wide receivers coach for the Arizona Cardinals in 2007.
With Arizona, Miller coached a wide receiving core to a record-breaking year in 2008, when three of his wide receivers each surpassed 1,000 yards for the season, becoming just the fifth trio in NFL history to do so. Miller and the Cardinals reached Super Bowl XLIII that same season. Miller was then promoted to passing game coordinator in 2009 as well as offensive coordinator in 2011. Millers other professional experiences include passing game coordinator/quarterbacks/wide receivers coach for the Berlin Thunder in NFL Europe in 2006 and assistant head coach/offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach for the Canadian Football League (CFL) Montreal Alouettes in 2013.
Among the wide receivers Miller coached in 2008 was future hall of famer and pro bowler Larry Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald went on to have a record-breaking season, including a career-high 1,431 yards and an average of 14.9 yards per catch. Miller also coached pro-bowler Anquan Boldin that same season, where Boldin earned 1,038 yards and caught 11 touchdowns.
Miller’s coaching background is also deeply rooted in the college ranks. Millers first job as a coach was as a graduate assistant/running backs coach for Division I FCS Robert Morris University in 1997. Miller returned to Robert Morris in the fall of 2006 as an assistant defensive line coach and most recently as the offensive coordinator/quarterback’s coach from 2016-17. Miller also was on Edinboro University’s staff for one season in 2014. Miller earned his Master of Arts Degree in Education from Robert Morris in 1998.
