Jarrett Samuels enters his first year on the Westminster football staff as a defensive assistant in 2021.
Samuels recently was an associate head coach and defensive line coach at Thiel. Prior to Thiel, Samuels served two stints as the head football coach of the Farrell High School Steelers, from 2007-10 and 2012-18. Under Samuels, Farrell won the 2018 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Class 1A Championship - capping off a perfect 15-0 record (the first team in Mercer County history, including all sports, to finish a season with a perfect record and win a state championship). Overall, Samuels led Farrell to a record of 116-32 during his 11 seasons as head coach. The Steelers were the state runner-up in 2015, won seven District 10 championships and made seven state Final Four appearances under the direction of Samuels. Samuels was named My Valley Sports TV Big 22 and Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association (PSFCA) Coach of the Year in 2008, 2009, 2015 and 2018. Following the 2018 season, he was also named the Pennsylvania Football Writers' Class 1A Coach of the Year and the Pennsylvania Football News Class 1A Coach of the Year.
Samuels graduated from Farrell High School in 1990 and served as the football team's captain as a senior in 1989. He went on to play football at Westminster and earned a bachelor's degree in sociology in 1994.
