Westminster drops league game at Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa.--The Westminster women's soccer team dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match to Grove City 5-1 Wednesday evening at Don Lyle Field.

The Titans fell to 7-2-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the PAC. Grove City improved to 9-1-2 overall and 5-0-1 in conference play.

The Titans fell behind in the fifth minute after Meghan Tischler's goal, then withstood an 11-minute run of Grove City pressure while the score remained 1-0. Freshman Amelia Brose (Houston, Pa., Chartiers-Houston) and senior Abbey Whaley (Monongahela, Pa., Ringgold) recorded shots during that stretch, and senior Ally Harrold (Somerset, Pa., Rockwood) later put a shot on frame that was saved. Tori Stevenson scored back-to-back goals in the 31st and 43rd minute to give Grove City a 3-0 lead going into the half.

The Titans answered early second half goals by Tischler and Emily Horst with a five-shot stretch before sophomore Autum Fichter (North Canton, Ohio, Hoover) scored off junior Brooke Galcik's (Saxonburg, Pa., Knoch) assist in the 70th minute. Senior Jocelyn Gratchic (Connellsville, Pa., Connellsville) had three shots during the Titans' push, while senior Giulianna Russell (Kinston, N.C., Wayne Christian) and Brose also added attempts. Senior Emily Codere (Shelton, Conn., Shelton) made seven saves in the half, including five before Grove City moved ahead 5-0.

Fichter scored the Titans' goal, putting her lone shot on frame. It was her first goal of the season. The assist was Galcik's second this year. Gratchic led the Titans with three shots and put one on goal. Codere finished with 13 saves over 90 minutes.
