Titans cruise to 27-7 victory at Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa.--Sophomore quarterback Sean O'Shea (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley), making his first career start, ran for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns while the Westminster College defense intercepted three passes in Saturday's 27-7 victory at Franklin & Marshall. 

O'Shea capped a five-play, 93-yard drive with a 73-yard touchdown run to give Westminster (1-1) a 17-0 lead five minutes before halftime. His 2-yard rushing score with just under two minutes to go in the third ended an 11-play, 80-yard drive that pushed the Titans' lead to 27-0. O'Shea completed 8-of-15 passes for 78 yards and matched his career high with 15 rushes. He completed passes to five different receivers. Junior tight end Brock Covell (Titusville, Pa., Titusville) hauled in three passes for 29 yards. 

Junior running back Clayton Cannon (Parkland, Fla., Marjory Stoneman Douglas) rushed 11 times for 72 yards, scoring on an 8-yard run just over a minute into the second quarter. Senior running back Demere White (Manalapan, N.J., DePaul Catholic) finished with 46 yards on seven carries. 

Sophomore Brite Cannon (Parkland, Fla., Monarch) intercepted a Ty Tremba pass and returned it 14 yards in the second quarter, setting up sophomore Andrew Caranna's (Copley, Ohio, Revere) 35-yard field goal four minutes into the quarter. He finished with five tackles (3 solo) and added a pair of catches for 16 yards. Graduate running back/linebacker Walt Phillips (Pembroke Pines, Fla., Champagnat Catholic) had three carries for 17 yards and intercepted Tremba on F&M's final play of the first half. 

Caranna was 2-for-2 on field goals, adding a 30-yarder four minutes into the third that extended Westminster's lead to 20-0. 

Senior linebacker Dylan Sleva (McDonald, Pa., Moon) registered 13 tackles (5 solo) and added an interception on F&M's third play from scrimmage to start the second half. Sophomore defensive end Wes Donner (Bastrop, Texas, Bastrop) totaled four tackles (4 solo), 3.0 tackles for loss and a pair of sacks. Senior defensive lineman Jean Garry Joseph (North Miami, Fla., Ebenezer Christian) and sophomore safety Ricky Cooper (Port St. Lucie, Fla., Port St. Lucie) finished with five tackles apiece. 

F&M was held scoreless for the first 59 minutes, 47 seconds of the game. Tremba connected with Gary Lewis on a 7-yard touchdown with 13 seconds remaining. Tremba finished 15-of=29 passing for 149 yards while Lewis caught eight passes for 94 yards. 

Westminster held F&M to 210 yards of total offense. The Diplomats rolled up 302 yards in last week's 31-21 win at Lebanon Valley. The Titans finished with 8.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks while limiting the Diplomats to 61 rushing yards. 

Offensively the Titans totaled 359 yards of offense, including 281 yards on the ground, and scored on all four of their red zone chances. 

Up next:
Westminster will travel to Cleveland next Saturday to open its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule against Case Western Reserve. Kickoff from DiSanto Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
