Women's volleyball wins a pair Friday

WOOSTER, Ohio--After scoring a reverse sweep against Bluffton Friday afternoon to open its two-day run at Wooster's Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic, the Westminster College women's volleyball team closed out the day by bouncing back from a lopsided first set loss to earn a four-set victory over Oberlin.

Westminster improved to 5-4 with Friday's two wins.

Despite ceding an early 4-1 lead in the fifth, the Titans battled back from a 7-6 deficit to win its second five-setter of the year. Westminster earned a five-set win over Bluffton last September at Ohio Northern. Friday's win over Bluffton was the program's first reverse sweep since taking down W&J in Washington on Oct. 3, 2019. 

Junior Liv Trent (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) highlighted Westminster's efforts in the five-setter, registering a 15-kill, 16-dig double-double. The 15 kills were a career high for Trent. Senior Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) reached double-digit kills for the third time this year, finishing with 12 kills on 28 attacks. Seniors Rachel LaSalvia (Columbus, Pa., Corry) and Jamie Robertson (Los Angeles, Calif., Palisades Charter) added nine and eight kills, respectively. LaSalvia helped defensively with 15 digs while Robertson chipped in with three service aces and four blocks. Westminster totaled a season-high 56 assists in the win. Junior Anna-Kate Davis (Boonsboro, Md., Boonsboro) had a career-high 25 while senior Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) finished with 24. Sophomore Brooke Gecina (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora) totaled 37 digs while Davis finished with 11 to complete her first double-double this season. 

Jenna Woods had 23 kills for Bluffton.

The Titans responded to their opening set loss in the nightcap with three-straight set wins. Trailing 23-21 in the fourth, Westminster scored the match's final four points to secure the victory. 

Sophomore Morgan O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) had nine kills on 22 swings. Rambo and freshman Kylie Anthony (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) each finished with eight. Davis and Nardone had 18 assists apiece while Gecina finished with 22 digs and four service aces. Nardone and Anthony chipped in with seven digs each. 

Oberlin finished with three players totaling double-digit kills: Brylie Peters had 15, while Mara Geiger had 14 and Josie Macdonald had 12.
