7/15/2025 11:00:00 AM

NORTHBROOK, Ill.—Westminster College rising senior Dylan Sleva (McDonald, Pa., Moon) was named a nominee for the 2025 Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team® Tuesday morning.

A record-breaking 197 student-athletes were nominated, the most in the award's 34-year history.

"I've been a part of this team, and these players aren't just showing up, they're standing out," said Sam Acho, ESPN analyst, former NFL linebacker, author and 2010 Good Works Team member and Allstate Wuerffel Trophy recipient. "Their commitment to service creates lasting change and inspires the next generation."

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® was established in 1992 by the College Football Association, recognizing the extra efforts made by college football players and student support staff off the field. The AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor college football players who go the extra mile for those in need. Allstate began presenting the award in 2008.

Sleva, a linebacker, was recognized as a Second Team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) selection for the second-straight year last fall. A starter in all 11 games as a junior, his 105 tackles (61 solo) were the second-most in the league. He added 10.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. Sleva finished the year with double-digit tackles in six games, including a career-high 16 stops (10 solo) in a 27-13 win over Marietta in the Opendorse Bowl Series' Extra Points Bowl on Nov. 23 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

Sleva has served as a volunteer with the College's Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) program and Special Olympics Lawrence County, assisting with initial visitor registration for an annual spring event on campus that welcomes hundreds of Special Olympics athletes from seven local counties for a basketball tournament, swim meet and, for the first time, a track and field event in 2025. He has volunteered at Wilmington Field Day, Wilmington Area Elementary School's annual visit to campus, where Westminster student-athletes run basketball, track, football, golf, volleyball, soccer, tennis and lacrosse activities that keep the visiting students and College student-athletes engaged. Sleva has helped lead the football program's participation in the annual Toys for Tots campaign while assisting the United States Marine Corps with its annual toy drive and distribution and worked with other members of the football program to clean up local parks around the New Wilmington community.

A biology major, Sleva is also pursuing a minor in secondary education. He owns a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average (GPA).

To be considered for a spot on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, each player must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining strong academic standing.

The final roster of 23 award recipients announced in September will bring together:
  • 11 players from the NCAA FBS
  • 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Divisions II, III and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
  • 1 honorary head coach
A voting panel of former Good Works Team members, head coaches and journalists will select the team roster based on outstanding leadership on and off the field.
