Westminster falls at Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa.--The Westminster College men's lacrosse program suffered an 18-7 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to Grove City College Saturday afternoon at Robert E. Thorn Field. 

Westminster fell to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference with Saturday's loss. Grove City improved to 6-6 overall and 3-0 in the PAC. 

Senior midfielder Gavin Jones (Henrico, Va., Douglas S. Freeman) had four goals, an assist, two ground balls and one caused turnover. Sophomore midfielder Anthony Trella (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) finished with two assists. Freshman attacker Ethan Kurtz (Hummelstown, Pa., Lower Dauphin) and graduate student midfield Jimmy Sentz (Catonsville, Md., Loyola Blakefield) each scored one goal. 

Senior long-stick midfielder Brody McGuinness (Heber City, Utah, Wasatch) finished with a goal, three ground balls and one caused turnover. Senior defender Geoffrey Worsey (Frederick, Md., Tuscarora) had two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Freshman goalkeeper Nolan Grieshaber (Rocklin, Calif., Rocklin) made 16 saves. 

Behind three Jones goals and Sentz's score, Westminster led 4-3 after one quarter. Grove City scored three-straight goals to close out the second, including back-to-back scores by Kobi Bui with less than four minutes to go, to go into halftime up 7-5. The Wolverines outscored the Titans 6-0 in the third and led by eight, 13-5, heading into the fourth. Goals by Kurtz and McGuinness early in the quarter cut the deficit to six, 13-7, but the Wolverines poured in the final five scores of the game to secure the victory. 

Grove City outshot Westminster 57-29 and finished with 34-22 edge in shots on goal.

Westminster will travel to Bethany College Wednesday. The opening faceoff from Don Ault Field at Bison Stadium is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
