Westminster men fall to Oberlin

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's lacrosse program dropped an 18-7 decision to Oberlin College in its home opener Tuesday night at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Oberlin improved to 2-0 with the win. Westminster fell to 1-1. Tuesday was the first meeting between the schools. 

Senior attack Gavin Jones (Henrico, Va., Douglas S. Freeman) and graduate midfielder Jimmy Sentz (Catonsville, Md., Loyola Blakefield) had three points apiece. Jones scored a pair of goals and added an assist, while Sentz finished with one goal and two assists. Sophomore midfielder Anthony Trella (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) and senior attack Jonas Clark (Montgomery Village, Md., Watkins Mill) each had a goal and an assist.

Senior long-stick midfielder Brody McGuinness (Heber City, Utah, Wasatch) had five ground balls, two caused turnovers and scored a goal with under two minutes to go before the half. It was his first goal since scoring a pair in a win at Chatham University last March. Senior defender Geoffrey Worsey (Frederick, Md., Tuscarora) had four ground balls while junior short-stick defensive midfielder Jahiem Hawkins (Huntington Station, N.Y., Huntington) finished with two ground balls and four caused turnovers. Graduate defender David Evangelista (Pittsburgh, Pa., Chartiers Valley) added three caused turnovers and had one ground ball. Freshman Nolan Grieshaber (Rocklin, Calif., Rocklin) finished with 12 saves and three ground balls. 

Jacob Starcke led Oberlin with six points on five goals and an assist. Colin Taylor finished with six ground balls and six caused turnovers while Evan Sardina was 14-of-15 on faceoffs to go along with nine ground balls.

Oberlin led 5-0 after one quarter and went into halftime up eight, 10-2. Leading 13-5 after three quarters, the Yeoman outscored the Titans 5-2 in the fourth. 

Oberlin outshot Westminster 51-31 and had a 30-18 edge in shots on goal.
