Nine score in lopsided win over West Virginia Wesleyan

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's lacrosse program, in the midst of a three-game homestand to start the year, led wire-to-wire Tuesday afternoon against West Virginia Wesleyan College at the UPMC Sports Complex, posting a 19-2 thumping of the visiting Bobcats. 

Westminster improved to 2-0 this season. It is the program's first 2-0 start since 2019. Tuesday was West Virginia Wesleyan's first game of the year. 

Sophomore Falyn Snyder (Bel Air, Md., Bel Air) made six saves to improve to 2-0 this season. Senior defender Shea O'Donnell (Hatfield, Pa., Lansdale Catholic) had a terrific day, recording career highs in ground balls, with six, and caused turnovers, with four. Junior defender Morgan Reidy (Elmira, N.Y., Elmira) added five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior defender Isabella Cespedes (Merrick, N.Y., Sanford H. Calhoun) had two ground balls and a caused turnover. 

The Titans had nine different goal scorers while 10 players registered at least one point. Junior attack Julia Ravazza (Twain Harte, Calif., Dublin) had six points on three goals and three assists. Senior midfield Felicia Young (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk) scored four goals and had four draw controls while junior attack Chloe Courinos (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) finished with two goals and two assists. 

Freshman midfield Allyssa Anstis (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) had two goals, three ground balls, two caused turnovers and four draw controls while junior attack Haley Wenzel (Coppell, Texas, Coppell) totaled two goals, one assist and one ground balls. Freshman midfield Ava Kessler (White Oak, Pa., Norwin) totaled three assists, two ground balls, two caused turnovers and six draw controls. Junior midfielder Michaela Neelin (Henrietta, N.Y., Rush Henrietta) had two goals, three ground balls, a caused turnover and three draw controls while freshman attack Megan Comito (Irwin, Pa., Norwin) scored twice, marking her first collegiate goal.

Junior attack Caitey Wozniak (Doylestown, Pa., West Morris Central (N.J.)) netted her first collegiate goal with just under four minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Sophomore attack Khloe Huba (Butler, Pa., Butler) scored her first goal of the season with just over five minutes to play in the opening half. 

Westminster grabbed a 6-1 lead after one quarter and outscored the Bobcats 8-0 in the second to lead 14-1 at the half. Ravazza, Anstis and Comito scored third quarter goals to stretch the Titans' lead to 17-1 before Ravazza and Wozniak scores upped the lead to 19-1. West Virginia Wesleyan's Nyah Elmer closed out the scoring with less than a minute to go. 

Ella Gomez had 10 saves for West Virginia Wesleyan. 

Westminster outshot West Virginia Wesleyan 37-16 and had a 29-8 edge in shots on goal.

Westminster closes its three-game homestand Saturday at 1 p.m. against Wilson College (0-3). The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m.
