Westminster men suffer road loss to Chatham

PITTSBURGH--The Westminster College men's basketball program fell 79-68 to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Chatham University Saturday afternoon at the Athletic and Fitness Center (AFC). 

Westminster wrapped up its season with an 8-17 overall record and a 5-15 mark in conference action. Chatham pushed its overall record to 21-4 and 18-2 in the PAC with Saturday's win. The Cougars sewed up the No. 1 seed in next week's PAC Championship Tournament with Saturday's regular season finale win. 

Freshman guard Jibri Carter Jr. (Youngstown, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) scored a career-high 15 points in 13 reserve minutes to lead three players in double figures. He went 5-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-4 from three-point field goal range. Junior guard Mick Hergenrother (Canfield, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) had with 12 points, five rebounds and three steals while junior guard Jaxon Hendershott (Salem, Ohio, West Branch) added 10 points and seven boards. 

Westminster fell behind early and trailed by 13 at the break. Freshman guard Trevor Siefke (Lisbon, Ohio, David Anderson) knocked down a jumper with six seconds left before halftime, cutting the lead to 34-21. Siefke had nine points on 4-of-9 shooting Saturday. 

Chatham's second half lead swelled to 21, 68-47, with just under six minutes to go before Westminster's 11-1 run trimmed the deficit to nine, 77-68, with less than a minute to play. Carter's 15 points came in the final four-plus minutes.

Westminster shot 37 percent (27-73) from the floor and 27.3 percent (6-22) from three-point range. The Titans were outscored 50-30 in the paint and outrebounded 45-38.
