Westminster grinds out eight-point win over Ohio Northern

WASHINGTON, Pa.--Sophomore Katie Grexa (Hartford, Ohio, Badger) finished with 15 points and nine rebounds to help the Westminster College earn a 48-40 victory over Ohio Northern Saturday afternoon at W&J's Hampton Inn by Hilton Women's Basketball Tipoff inside the Salvitti Family Gymnasium.

Westminster improved to 2-2 this season with Saturday's win. It was first meeting between Westminster and Ohio Northern (0-2).

Grexa, named to the all-tournament team, was 4-of-10 from the floor but went 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Freshman Bella Calcamuggio (Sylvania, Ohio, Notre Dame) added seven points and six rebounds. Senior Grace Cano (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) and sophomore Angelina Brush (Murrysville, Pa., Franklin Regional) finished with six points each.

Down 17-14 at halftime, Westminster outscored Ohio Northern 16-11 in the third, tying the game at 28-all on junior Kennedy Arison's (Medina, Ohio, Akron Hoban) layup with 28 seconds to play in the quarter. Grexa knocked down a pair of free throws after being fouled with no time on the clock in the third to give the Titans a 30-28 lead after three.

Cano scored the first points of the final period, hitting two free throws with 9:28 to go to push Westminster's lead to four, 32-28. The Titans used a 12-1 run early in the fourth to stretch their lead to 13, 42-29. Grexa hit two more free throws with six seconds left in regulation to secure the eight-point victory.
