Women's volleyball swept at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss at Allegheny Wednesday night at the David V. Wise Center.

Allegheny won 26-24, 25-21 and 25-19.

Westminster fell to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in the PAC. Allegheny, winners of six of its last eight, ran its record to 10-7 overall and 2-3 in the league.

Senior Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) finished with seven kills and three blocks. Seniors Rachel LaSalvia (Columbus, Pa., Corry) and Charlotte Burgan (Moon Township, Pa., Moon) finished with six kills apiece while junior Liv Trent (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) had five kills and added 12 digs. Sophomore Morgan O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) finished with 16 assists, three kills and five digs while freshman Mackenzie Ging (Canton, Ohio, Glenoak) totaled a career-high 17 digs.

Sydney Kirk lead Allegheny with 10 kills. Joanna Miller had 14 assists and Izzy Gray had 11. Jacy Diaz finished with 18 digs and two service aces.

Westminster stretched its first set lead to five, 22-17, before Allegheny scored seven of the next nine points to even things up at 24-all. A Duru Akbas service ace, followed by a Kirk kill, closed out the set. Kirk had five kills in the first. Fueled by five kills from Amaya Brooks, Allegheny led wire-to-wire in the second. In the third, Westminster chiseled the Gators' lead to two, 19-17, before three-straight points pushed Allegheny's lead back to three, 22-17. Allegheny scored the final three points to secure the match.
