Westminster women fall at home to Chatham

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's basketball program was dealt a 103-51 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss by visiting Chatham University Saturday afternoon at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. 

Chatham, now winners of six straight, improved to 11-4 overall and 9-2 in the conference. Westminster fell to 2-14 overall and 2-9 in league play. 

Freshman guard Katie Maryo (Cleveland, Ohio, Magnificat) led Westminster with 16 points. She was 6-of-8 from the floor and hit four of her five attempted three-pointers. Freshman guard Maddie Syka (Darlington, Pa., Lincoln Park) finished with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting and added six rebounds and two assists. Sophomore guard Kennedy Arison (Medina, Ohio, Akron Hoban) chipped in with five points and four assists. 

Hannah Chenault led three Chatham players in double figures with 22. She added six rebounds and a pair of steals. Charjae Brock had 18 points, four rebounds, three assists and seven steals while Ashlie Louden totaled 14 points. 

Arison knocked down a three-pointer with just over three minutes left in the first to cut the lead to six, 13-7, before Chatham closed the quarter riding a 6-0 run to go up 12, 19-7. The Cougars outscored the Titans 33-19 in the second and led by 26, 52-26, at the half. Brock paced Chatham with 14 first half points. Maryo hit a three-pointer less than two minutes into the third to trim Chatham's lead to 18, 52-34, before an 8-0 spurt pushed the Cougars' lead back to 26, 60-34, and after Chenault's three with seven seconds left in the quarter, Chatham led by 32, 74-42, heading into the fourth.

Westminster shot 40.0 percent (20-50) from the floor but made just three of its attempted five free throws (.600). Chatham finished with a 47-32 advantage on the glass, including a 24-8 edge on the offensive boards.

Wednesday, Westminster will travel to Grove City College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the Grove City College Arena.
