Westminster wins a pair in Meadville

MEADVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College women's volleyball program snapped a three-match losing streak with a pair of victories Friday night at the Allegheny College Invitational. Westminster rolled in a three-set win over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) before claiming a 3-1 triumph over Fredonia State. 

Westminster improved to 6-3 this season with Friday's wins. Saturday, the Titans will face Houghton University at 1 p.m. before squaring off with Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Washington & Jefferson College at 3 p.m.

Westminster 3, RIT 0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-22)
Sophomore outside hitter Liv Trent (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) had nine kills and hit .444 in the three-set win. She added seven digs. Senior right side Ava Ferringer (Venus, Pa., Cranberry) finished with seven kills and hit .333 with two blocks while junior middle hitter Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) had six kills and four blocks while hitting .600. Junior outside hitter Charlotte Burgan (Moon Township, Pa., Moon) added four kills and career-high five service aces. Junior setter Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) registered 14 assists and five digs while sophomore setter Anna-Kate Davis (Boonsboro, Md., Boonsboro) posted 13 assists and six digs. Freshman libero Brooke Gecina (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora) finished with 12 digs and three service aces. 

Westminster hit a combined .258 as a team. 

Westminster 3, Fredonia State 1 (21-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-15)
After hitting just .027 in the four-point first set loss, the Titans bounced back with commanding wins in the second, third and fourth sets. Ferringer hit .323 with a dozen kills and five digs while Trent finished hitting .269 with and 11-kill, 18-dig double-double. Junior outside hitter Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) chipped in with nine kills, 13 digs, four assists and three service aces. Gecina finished with a career-high 23 digs, six assists and a pair of service aces. Davis totaled 13 assists and nine digs while Nardone added 12 assists and four digs. 

Westminster finished with a .231 hitting percentage in the four-set win, Fredonia hit .064.
