Westminster earns 5-2 victory at Geneva

PATTERSON HEIGHTS, Pa.--The Westminster College women's tennis program cruised to a 5-2 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Geneva College at Brady's Run Park Tuesday night. 

Westminster improved to 2-0 overall while Geneva fell to 2-1 this season. It was the league opener for both schools. 

The Titans claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Seniors Ryleigh Valone (Erie, Pa., Villa Maria Academy) and Emma Sukal (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) scored a 6-4 win at No. 2 while sophomore Emma Overlingas (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) and senior Taylor Dlugozima (Volant, Pa., Wilmington) picked up a 6-1 victory at No. 3. Westminster's top doubles tandem of senior Gia Francisco (Canfield, Ohio, Canfield) and junior Christine Rossi (Jefferson Hills, Pa., Thomas Jefferson) was dealt a 7-6 (2) loss.

Valone, Sukal and Overlingas were all double winners Tuesday. Valone won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles and Sukal won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Overlingas posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles while junior Grace Askey (Dubois, Pa., Jeff Tech) rallied from a second set loss to win in three--6-2, 6-7 (5), 13-11--at No. 6 singles.

Westminster hosts Penn State Behrend Wednesday. Doubles matches are scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m. The Titans own a 10-match winning streak against the Lions, including a 7-2 win in Erie last September.
