Westminster women fall at Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa.--The Westminster College women's basketball team suffered a 75-65 loss to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Geneva College Wednesday night at Metheny Fieldhouse. 

Geneva, winners of three of its last five, concludes its regular season with an 11-13 overall record and an 11-9 mark in the PAC. Westminster has lost four of its last five, falling to 12-11 overall and 10-9 in the league. 

Fifth-year Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) led Westminster with 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting. She went 7-of-10 from the free throw line and added four assists. Graduate student Camden Hergenrother (Salem, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) finished with nine points, converting three of her five attempted three-pointers, and added four rebounds and three assists. Senior Caitlyn Condoleon (Warren, Ohio, Warren JFK) had eight points on 4-of-7 shooting. Junior Emily Hess (Edinboro, Pa., General McLane) registered a career-high 14 rebounds.

Mia San Nicolas led three Geneva players in double figures, finishing with 22 points after going 10-of-13 from the floor. She added six rebounds and four blocked shots. Taylor Milroy added 15 points while Bailee Fletcher had 12 points and nine rebounds. Seven Geneva players made at least one three-pointer Wednesday.

Westminster led by six, 21-15 after the first quarter. Hergenrother knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the first 10 minutes of action. The Titans held the Golden Tornadoes scoreless over the final six minutes of the second and went into halftime up 36-25. Murrio had 14 first half points for Westminster, going 5-of-7 from the floor, while Hess totaled nine rebounds. Westminster shot 46.4 percent (13-28) from the floor in the first half and hit four of its nine attempted three-pointers.

Westminster built a 15-point lead in the third, going up 44-29 after a pair of made free throws by freshman Kennedy Arison (Medina, Ohio, Akron Hoban) with just over six minutes left in the quarter. Geneva put together a 10-0 scoring run and pulled within five points, 44-39, with under four minutes to go. San Nicolas scored on driving layup with five seconds left in the quarter to cut Westminster's lead to three, 50-47. Geneva outscored the Titans 22-14 in the third. 

In the fourth Fletcher tied the game at 50 with an early three-pointer before Bucheit gave the Golden Tornadoes a 55-52 lead with 8:28 to go in regulation. A 10-4 stretch extended Geneva's lead to nine, 65-56, with just over four minutes remaining. Emily Bucheit knocked down four-straight free throws down the stretch to help Geneva secure the pivotal 10-point win. Geneva had a 28-15 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter. 

Westminster shot 39.7 percent (23-58) and made 6-of-15 (.400) three-point field goal attempts. The Titans combined to go just 13-of-22 (.591) from the free throw line. Geneva's reserves outscored Westminster's bench 30-19. The Golden Tornadoes turned Westminster's 17 turnovers into 20 points. 

Saturday, Westminster closes its regular against Bethany College. Tipoff at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday will also serve as Senior Recognition Day in New Wilmington.
