Westminster women fall at home to Saint Vincent

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's basketball program suffered a 78-39 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to visiting Saint Vincent College Thursday afternoon at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

Westminster's record fell to 1-8 overall and 1-5 in PAC play. Saint Vincent improved to 4-5 overall and 4-2 in the league. Thursday was Saint Vincent's third-straight win in New Wilmington.

Sophomore guard Kennedy Arison (Medina, Ohio, Akron Hoban) fired in a season-high 11 points for Westminster. Sophomore forward Grace Cano (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) finished with 10 points and seven rebounds in 23 reserve minutes. She went 5-of-8 from the floor. 

Emily Thompson led three Saint Vincent players in double figures, finishing with 18 points and six rebounds. Reese Gadsby added 13 points, three rebounds and four assists while Brooke Evans chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds in 17 reserve minutes. 

Saint Vincent led by four, 16-12, after one quarter and carried a 30-21 lead into halftime. The Bearcats rattled off seven-straight points to start the game. Thompson scored 11 of her 18 in the first 20 minutes. 

Thompson's three-pointer with just over three minutes left in the third stretched the Bearcats' lead to 19, 45-26. Saint Vincent led by 23, 55-32, heading into the fourth quarter. Saint Vincent put together an 8-1 scoring run to start the fourth to go up 30, 63-33, and outscored Westminster 13-4 over the final six minutes. 

Saint Vincent shot 47.9 percent (35-73) from the field and outrebounded Westminster 49-33.
