Westminster falls at Mount Union in season opener

ALLIANCE, Ohio--The Westminster College women's basketball program suffered a 79-41 loss to the University of Mount Union in the Teammates For Life Tipoff Tournament Saturday afternoon at The McPherson Athletic and Academic Complex (The MAAC).

Freshman guard Katie Maryo (Cleveland, Ohio, Magnificat) led Westminster with 15 points, three assists and one rebound. She went 5-of-10 from three-point range. Freshman guard Angelina Brush (Murrysville, Pa., Franklin Regional) had eight points, two assists and a rebound while sophomore forward Grace Cano (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) finished with seven points and a pair of rebounds. 

Abby Muckleroy led Mount Union with 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Chelsea Evanich chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. 

The Westminster bench scored 21 of its 41 points Saturday. Mount Union had a 50-14 edge in points in the paint and outrebounded Westminster 54-23. 

Westminster will take on Kalamazoo College in Sunday's consolation game. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
