Westminster drops four-set match to PAC-leading Allegheny

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's volleyball program was dealt a four-set Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss by visiting Allegheny College Wednesday night at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. 

Allegheny, winners of six straight, improved to 21-5 overall and remain undefeated in league play with a 7-0 record. Westminster fell to 17-12 overall and 4-3 in the conference. Wednesday was Allegheny's fifth-straight victory over Westminster. 

Allegheny won 25-20 in the first set before Westminster evened the match 1-1 with a 25-0 second set win. The Gators posted a 25-19 win in the third set before securing the 25-23 win in the fourth. 

Junior middle hitter Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) and senior right side Ava Ferringer (Venus, Pa., Cranberry) finished with 11 kills each. Rambo hit .375 (22-2-24) with 3.0 blocks while Ferringer hit .241 (11-4-29) with a pair of digs. Junior outside hitter Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) added nine kills and 10 digs.

Junior Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) and freshman Morgan O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) both had double-doubles. Nardone had 18 assists and 11 digs while O'Brien totaled 17 assists and 10 digs. Freshman libero Brooke Gecina (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora) finished with 25 digs while sophomore outside hitter Liv Trent (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) added 16. 

Angelee Bawek led Allegheny with a 20-kill, 11-dig double-double. Dagney Javes added 17. Meagan Robare finished with 25 assists while Jacy Diaz had 28 digs. Alejandra Fernandez totaled 13 digs and two service aces.

On Saturday, Westminster will travel to Grove City College for an 11 a.m. match against the host Wolverines before taking on No. 14 Case Western Reserve University at 1 p.m.
