Westminster falls in PAC semifinals

MEADVILLE, Pa.--Westminster College was dealt a 4-0 loss by Allegheny College Saturday afternoon at the Tennis Courts at Robertson in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Women's Tennis Championship Tournament semifinal round. 

It is the third-straight year Allegheny and Westminster met in the semifinal round. 

Allegheny, the championship tournament's top seed, will host the winner of Saturday's other semifinal, No. 2 Grove City College and No.6 Franciscan University, in the title match Monday. The Gators improved to 14-2 this fall while Westminster closed its fall season with an 8-4 record. 

Allegheny jumped out to a 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 with an unfinished match at No. 3. Seniors Gia Francisco (Canfield, Ohio, Canfield) and Emma Sukal (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) fell to Omega Ba and Evie Ellenberger 6-4 at the No. 1 position.

In singles action, junior Grace Askey (Dubois, Pa., Jeff Tech) lost 6-0, 6-0 to Ellenberger at No.6 before sophomore Emma Overlingas (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) fell 6-1, 6-0 to Alejandra Villanueva at No. 4. Sophomore Morgan Allen (Johnstown, Pa., Westmont Hilltop) dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision at No. 5 to Maria Lounder. 

Francisco's match at No. 1 and senior Ryleigh Valone's (Erie, Pa., Villa Maria Academy) match at No. 3 were both unfinished. Francisco was up on Emiliia Grydnieva 6-2, 2-6, 3-0 while Valone led Nicole Serna Cassan 6-4, 1-2 before their matches were stopped.
