Westminster opens season with win at Behrend

ERIE, Pa.--The Westminster College women's tennis team opened its season with a 7-2 victory at Penn State Behrend Friday afternoon.

Behrend fell to 1-1. 

Junior Ryleigh Valone (Erie, Pa., Villa Maria Academy) earned wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles to lead the Titans. She partnered with senior Caroline Fox (Acton, Calif., Vasquez) to win 8-3 and scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Jayna Baer in singles action. Fox won 6-1, 6-1 against Keri Saulino at No. 5 singles. 

Junior Taylor Dlugozima (Volant, Pa., Wilmington) and freshman Emma Overlingas (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Overlingas won 6-3, 6-2 over Rachel Fleming at No. 4 singles. 

Sophomore Christine Rossi (Jefferson Hills, Pa., Thomas Jefferson) posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Lindsey Kerlin at No. 2 singles and sophomore Grace Askey (Dubois, Pa., Jeff Tech) won 6-0, 6-0 against Madison Gannon at No. 6 singles. 

Westminster hosts Pitt-Greensburg, back-to-back winners of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC), Saturday at 3 p.m.
