Westminster rolls in league win at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa.--The Westminster College women's tennis team scored an 8-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory at Waynesburg University Tuesday afternoon. 

Westminster upped its season record to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Waynesburg fell to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the PAC. 

Junior Gia Francisco (Canfield, Ohio, Canfield) and freshmen Emma Overlingas (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) and Morgan Allen (Johnstown, Pa., Westmont Hilltop) all earned two wins in the match. 

Francisco partnered with sophomore Christine Rossi (Jefferson Hills, Pa., Thomas Jefferson) in an 8-0 No. 1 doubles win. Overlingas and junior Taylor Dlugozima (Volant, Pa., Wilmington) won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles while Allen and sophomore Grace Askey (Dubois, Pa., Jeff Tech) posted an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles. 

At No. 1 singles Francisco cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win. Junior Ryleigh Valone (Erie, Pa., Villa Maria Academy) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and senior Caroline Fox (Acton, Calif., Vasquez) improved to 6-1 in singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3. Overlingas pushed her singles record to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in PAC matchups with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 while Allen won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. 

Westminster will step out of conference Monday against Baldwin Wallace University. Doubles play is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m. in New Wilmington.
