Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Strong second half leads to convincing win

KANE, Pa.--Freshman Chloe LaRosa (Tyrone, Pa., Tyrone) and junior Brooke Horvath (Murrysville, Pa., Franklin Regional) each had a hat trick in the Westminster College women's soccer team's 9-1 non-conference victory over the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Wednesday evening. 

The match was played at Kane High School's Paul R. Miller Stadium.

Westminster ran its season record to 5-0, while Pitt-Bradford fell to 0-4. 

Up 3-1 at halftime, Westminster outscored Pitt-Bradford by a 6-0 margin in the second half. 

LaRosa finished with three goals and a pair of assists while Brooke Horvath totaled three goals and one assist. Junior Natalie Vilchek (West Newton, Pa., Yough) had a goal and an assist. Sophomores Taylor Jones (Trafford, Pa., Penn-Trafford) and Ashley Horvath (Houston, Pa., Charters-Houston) each scored goals. It was Jones' first career goal and Ashley Horvath's first of the season. 

Wednesday was LaRosa's second hat trick of the season. She leads the program with 20 points. It was the first hat trick of Brooke Horvath's career. 

Westminster finished with a commanding 36-3 advantage in shots and had 23 shots on goal to Pitt-Bradford's two. Twenty-two players saw action for the Titans. 

Pitt-Bradford's goal in the 21st minute tied the match at 1-1. It was just the second goal allowed this season by sophomore Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa., Villa Joseph Marie).

Westminster hosts Heidelberg University Saturday at 6 p.m. at the UPMC Sports Complex.
