Titans fall to Medaille

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's lacrosse team was dealt an 18-6 loss by Medaille College Wednesday evening at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Medaille improved to 3-1. Westminster fell to 0-4. 

Cameron Briggs led Medaille with eight goals and two assists and added eight ground balls and five caused turnovers. Kara Anderson chipped in with four goals and a pair of ground balls. 

Six different players scored for Westminster. Freshman attack Emma Brazier (Northport, N.Y. | Northport) paced the Titans with a goal and two assists. Senior midfielder Stephanie Cimini (Mars, Pa. | Mars) had a goal and an assist. Junior midfielder Nina Rascona (Somerset, Pa., Somerset) and freshman attackers Haley Wenzel (Coppell, Texas | Coppell) and Morgan Reidy (Pine City, N.Y. | Elmira) each had a goal. 

Rascona led Westminster with five ground balls. Junior midfielder Samantha Reed (Zionsville, Pa. | Emmaus) had four draw controls and two ground balls. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Jade Hromanik (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Shaler) made with 10 saves and had a pair of ground balls in 48 reserve minutes. 

Medaille finished with a 41-16 edge in shots and a 32-12 advantage in shots on goal. 

Rascona scored on a free position shot with 12 minutes to play in the first period and freshman attack Emma Lafayette (Pittsburgh, Pa. | North Allegheny) scored off of a Brazier assist 48 seconds later to take a 2-0 lead. The Mavericks outscored the Titans 8-2 over the next 11:56 to take an 8-4 lead into the second period. 

Medaille's Anderson and Briggs both scored goals less than two minutes into the second to stake the Mavericks to a 10-4 lead. Westminster's Brazier scored with less than five minutes left and Wenzel scored off of a Cimini assist with 1:11 remaining in the half to cut the deficit to four, 10-6, heading into halftime. 

Medaille outscored Westminster 7-0 in the third period to go up 11, 17-6. Briggs had three of her eight goals in the third, while Anderson added a pair of scores. 

Gia McIntyre netted a man-up goal with six minutes left in the fourth period to close out the scoring for Medaille. 

Westminster will travel to HIlton Head, South Carolina during its Spring Break. The Titans will face Concordia (Wis.) Wednesday, March 15 at 4 p.m. before taking on Hartford on Friday, March 17 at 10 a.m.
