Cimini reaches 100th career ground ball, draw control in win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Westminster College senior midfielder Stephanie Cimini (Mars, Pa. | Mars) turned in a terrific performance in Tuesday night's 19-3 victory over La Roche University at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Cimini paced the Titans with seven points on five goals and a pair of assists. She also surpassed 100 career ground balls and 100 career draw controls Tuesday, totaling five ground balls and nine draw controls in the win.


Westminster improved to 2-5 win the win. La Roche fell to 0-6. 

Freshman attacks Emma Brazier (Northport, N.Y. | Northport) and Emma Lafayette (Pittsburgh, Pa. | North Allegheny) each poured in three goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Samantha Reed (Zionsville, Pa. | Emmaus) added a pair of goals, two ground balls, a caused turnover and five draw controls. 

Junior midfielder Nina Rascona (Somerset, Pa. | Somerset) finished with one goal, three assists and five ground balls. Senior Jaden Domaratz (Springdale, Pa. | Springdale) had one goal and one assist to go along with five first half saves to record the goalkeeping victory. 

Ten Westminster players scored goals Tuesday. 

Freshman defender Isabella Cespedes (Merrick, N.Y. | Sanford H. Calhoun), freshman attacks Haley Wenzel (Coppell, Texas | Coppell) and Morgan Reidy (Pine City, N.Y. | Elmira) and senior defender Emiley Kushner (Cecil, Pa. | Canon-McMillan) all finished with four ground balls. Kushner added a pair of caused turnovers. 

Westminster held a 12-2 lead at halftime before scoring four goals in the third period and three more in the fourth. 

The Titans finished 20-of-22 in clears and had a 33-8 advantage in shots on goal. 

Westminster opens its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule Wednesday, March 29 at Franciscan University. The opening draw at Trinity Health System Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
