Titan women edged at Saint Vincent in PAC semifinals

LATROBE, Pa.--The sixth-seeded Westminster College women's basketball team dropped a 52-45 decision to No. 2 Saint Vincent College in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Women's Basketball Championship Tournament semifinal round Wednesday night at the Robert S. Carey Student Center. 

Saint Vincent improved to 21-4 with the win Wednesday. Westminster fell to 16-11. The Bearcats will host No. 4 Chatham University Saturday in the league's title game after the Cougars posted a 57-40 semifinal win at top-seeded Washington & Jefferson College. 

Senior Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Brentwood) led Westminster with 26 points. It was her 10th game this season scoring 20 or more points. Senior Lindsay Bell (Youngstown, Ohio | Ursuline) finished with a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double, her ninth of the season. 

Ella Marconi paced Saint Vincent with a 22-point, 11-rebound double-double. 

Westminster, down 11-8 after the first quarter, went up three, 14-11, early in the second on six-straight points by Murrio. Fueled by a 10-0 scoring run later in the second Westminster grabbed a nine-point lead, 26-17, with just under two minutes left in the half. Murrio scored nine of the Titans' 10 points during the run. 

Marconi scored on back-to-back buckets late in the half to Westminster's lead to five, 26-21, going into the break. 

The Bearcats came out firing in the third, scoring 11-straight points to pull ahead by six, 32-26, with under five to go in the period. Westminster the deficit to three, 35-32, heading into the fourth period. 

Murrio's three-point play with 3:27 remaining in regulation tied the game at 43-43. She later connected on a pair of free throws with under two minutes to play to get the Titans to within two, 47-45, but Saint Vincent managed to hold Westminster scoreless down the stretch to preserve the seven-point win. 

Saint Vincent limited Westminster to just 27.6 percent (16-58) shooting. The Titans made 3-of-15 (20.0%) three-point field goal tries. Westminster went 10-of-12 (83.3%) from the free throw line. 

The Bearcats outscored the Titans in the paint 32-12 and converted 14 Titan turnovers into 13 points.
