NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's basketball team earned an 84-44 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over visiting Thiel College Saturday afternoon at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
Westminster improved to 15-10 overall and 11-9 in PAC play with Saturday's Senior Day win. Thiel fell to 3-22 overall and 2-18 in the conference.
Seniors
Lindsay Bell (Youngstown, Ohio | Ursuline),
Camden Hergenrother (Salem, Ohio | Cardinal Mooney) and
Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Brentwood) were recognized prior to tipoff. The trio are the first players in program history to play four years on teams that had winning records in each of their four playing seasons.
Junior
Mariah Vincent (Franklin, Pa. | Kennedy Catholic) led four Westminster players in double figures with a career-high 17 points. She went 6-of-9 from the floor and knocked down 5-of-8 three-point field goal attempts. Vincent connected on all three of her three-point attempts in the first period, helping the Titans jump out to a 22-12 lead.
Hergenrother and Murrio scored 15 points apiece. Hergenrother went 7-of-9 from the floor and added a season-high 10 assists and six rebounds, while Murrio chipped in with nine rebounds and four assists. Junior
Katie Fitzpatrick (Cumberland Center, Maine | Greely) posted a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double. It was her first double-double of the season.
Destiny Johnson paced Thiel with an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double.
An 11-0 scoring run midway through the second period pushed Westminster's lead to 19, 33-14. The Titans led 43-22 at the break.
Westminster shot 45.9 percent (17-37) from the floor in the first half and made 7-of-15 (46.7%) three-point attempts.
The Titans closed the third quarter on a 13-2 run and went up by 33, 67-34, heading into the fourth period. Hergenrother and Murrio each had seven third quarter points. Westminster's fourth quarter lead swelled to as many as 42 (82-40) before scoring the 40-point win.
Westminster finished the game shooting 47.8 percent (33-69) from the field and 50.0 percent (12-24) from three-point range. The 12 made three-pointers were a season high. The Titans outrebounded the Tomcats 49-30.
With Saturday's win Westminster secured the No. 6 seed in the PAC Championship Tournament. The Titans will travel to the Grove City College Arena Monday at 7 p.m. for a quarterfinal matchup with No. 3 Grove City.
