Bell's double-double powers win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Senior Lindsay Bell (Youngstown, Ohio | Ursuline) registered a 20-point, 17-rebound double-double Wednesday night to lead the Westminster College women's basketball team to a 65-40 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Waynesburg University at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. 

Westminster (12-8, 8-7 PAC) snapped a season-long three game losing streak Wednesday. It was the Titans' ninth-straight win over Waynesburg (2-18, 2-13 PAC).

Wednesday marked Bell's second game this season scoring 20-plus points. She had a season-high 21 points December 30 in a win at Waynesburg. Bell went 9-of-16 from the field Wednesday. It was her seventh double-double this season. 

Freshman Kyla Servick (Wampum, Pa. | Ellwood City) totaled nine points on 4-of-7 shooting to go along with four assists and three rebounds. Senior Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Brentwood) added eight points and six rebounds. Sophomore Mackenzie Powell (Harrison City, Pa. | Penn-Trafford) had seven points and four reboun ds while sophomore Emily Hess (Edinboro, Pa. | General McLane) finished with four points, six rebounds and five assists. 

Westminster shot 36.6 percent (26-71) from the floor, 13.6 percent (3-22) from three-point range and 76.9 percent (10-13) from the free throw line. The Titans finished with a 51-37 rebounding edge and posted a season-best eight blocked shots. 

Forty-two of Westminster's 60 points were scored in the paint. The Titans scored 18 points off of 14 Waynesburg turnovers. 

Westminster carried a 19-2 lead into the second quarter after limiting Waynesburg to just 1-of-14 shooting in the first. Bell had six points and six rebounds in the first 10 minutes. 

Trailing 29-13 at the break, Waynesburg's Annika Dansby cut the deficit to 10, 37-27, with a made three-pointer at the 3:57 mark of the third quarter. Westminster closed the period on an 8-2 scoring run and led 45-29 heading to the fourth. 

The Titans outscored the Yellow Jackets 20-11 in the fourth to post the 15-point league win. 

Dansby led Waynesburg with 17 points, five rebounds and four steals. 

Westminster hosts Bethany College Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
