Westminster women’s volleyball bows out of PAC Championship Tournament with quarterfinal loss at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's volleyball program dropped a 3-1 decision to Washington & Jefferson in the quarterfinal round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament Tuesday night at the Salvitti Family Gymnasium.
 
W&J took the first set 26-24 and Westminster won the second 25-17. W&J earned a third set 25-21 win before securing the match with a 25-21 victory in the fourth set. 
 
W&J, the fourth seed, improved to 14-13 with Tuesday's win. Fifth-seeded Westminster wrapped up its season with a 17-13 record. The last quarterfinal matchup between the two longtime league rivals was in 2016, when No. 4 W&J captured a five-set win at home over No. 5 Westminster. 

On Oct. 6 in Washington, W&J secured a five-set conference win over Westminster.

W&J will face top-seeded Chatham (17-5) in the semifinal round Thursday in Pittsburgh.

Westminster grabbed an early 12-4 first set lead before W&J's 12-4 run knotted the match at 16-16. A W&J bad set put Westminster on set point at 24-21, but W&J scored the next five points to earn the 26-24 set win. The Titans bounced back with a 25-17 second set win, hitting a combined .250. They scored six-straight points mid-set to stretch a 15-12 lead to a 20-12 advantage. W&J took the third set 25-21. Trailing 8-6, the Presidents scored six-straight points to go up 12-9. Tied at 19, a 4-0 run stretched W&J's lead to 23-19. W&J, trailing 13-9 in the fourth, forged a tie at 16-16. With W&J leading 21-17, Westminster pulled to within two, 23-21. Following a time out, W&J punched its ticket to the semifinals after back-to-back kills by Jaden Blough and Kamryn Conners.   

Senior Natalie Franke (Centerville, Pa., Union City) hit .276 and had 10 kills and a pair of blocks. Senior Lauren Lampus (Sarver, Pa., Freeport) and junior Ava Ferringer (Venus, Pa., Cranberry) each had seven kills. Lampus finished with 11 digs, a service ace and a block while Ferringer added three blocks and three digs. Senior Saylee Grinnen (Wampum, Pa., Ellwood City) had five kills and four blocks. Senior Reanna Daniels (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) dished out 19 assists and had seven digs. Sophomore Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Ellwood City) had a 17-assist, 10-dig double-double and three service aces. Senior Malia Duffy (Allison Park, Pa., North Allegheny) racked up 26 digs and had a pair of service aces. Senior Claire Tobin (Battlecreek, Mich., Lakeview) finished with 16 digs.

Conners led the Presidents with a career-high 12 kills. Blough and Sophie Little had 10 kills apiece.
