Westminster women suffer league loss at Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa.--The Westminster College women's basketball team suffered a 76-60 setback Wednesday evening at Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Grove City College.

Grove City, a winner of three straight, improved to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the PAC. Westminster fell to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the league. 

Westminster fielded a pair of double digit scorers Wednesday. Fifth-year Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) fired in a season-high 25 points, going 11-of-16 from the floor. She added eight rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. Murrio had 17 first half points on 8-of-10 shooting.

Fifth-year Lindsay Bell (Youngstown, Ohio, Ursuline) finished with 12 points and four rebounds. She had eight points on 4-of-5 shooting in the first half. Junior Emily Hess (Edinboro, Pa., General McLane) chipped in with seven points on 3-of-5 shooting while senior Mariah Vincent (Franklin, Pa., Kennedy Catholic) went 2-for-4 from three-point range and finished with six points and a career-high seven rebounds. 

Vincent hit a three-pointer with 4:29 left in the first to give Westminster a three-point lead, 11-8. Grove City responded by outscoring the Titans 10-1 and went up 18-12 with under a minute to go in the quarter. With Westminster trailing by seven, 23-16, Vincent opened the second quarter with a three to cut the deficit to four, 23-19. Grove City went into halftime up nine, 43-34.

Grove City's third quarter lead swelled to 16, 57-41, with just over two minutes left in the period. The home team carried a 12-point lead, 57-45, into the fourth. The Wolverines, leading 70-57 with under four minutes left in regulation, ripped off six-straight points to stretch its lead to 19, 76-57, with just over two minutes to go.

Westminster finished with a 40-23 rebounding advantage. It was the program's third game this season with a plus-17 edge on the glass. Grove City scored 16 points off of 17 Westminster turnovers. The Wolverines were 11-of-23 (.478) from three-point range, while Westminster went 3-of-8 (.375). 

Westminster hosts Thiel College Saturday. Tipoff at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium is set for 1:30 p.m.
