Titans score Senior Day victory over Geneva

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College football program earned a 35-14 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Geneva College Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field inside Harold Burry Stadium.

Westminster wrapped up its season with a 6-4 record while Geneva fell to 4-6. Saturday's win was the Titans' 11th-straight against the Golden Tornadoes. The 2023 season is the program's ninth-straight non-losing season.

Freshman Damarion Collins (Porter, Texas, Humble) rushed 14 times for 34 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His 1-yard touchdown plunge with eight minutes to go in the first quarter opened the scoring. The run capped a 10-play, 64-yard drive.

Westminster rattled off three second quarter touchdowns to carry a 28-0 lead into the break.

Freshman Elijah Grayer (Monee, Ill., Crete-Monee) scored on a 4-yard run with just under nine remaining before sophomore Ty McGowan (Moon Township, Pa., Moon) connected with classmate Taite Beachy (Moon Township, Pa., Moon) on a 19-yard score with just over five minutes left in the half. Senior Corte Williams (Sharon, Pa., Sharon) intercepted Geneva's Darin Myers and returned it 52 yards to the Golden Tornadoes' 21-yard line to set up Beachy's touchdown.

Freshman Clayton Cannon Jr. (Parkland, Fla., Marjory Stoneman Douglas) blocked a Geneva punt at its own 44-yard line and recovered it at the Golden Tornadoes' 25-yard line. On the ensuing drive, McGowan rifled a 4-yard touchdown to senior Damon Maul (Portage, Pa., Cambria Heights) with less than a minute left in the half. It was Maul's first touchdown of the season and eighth of his career.

With Westminster up 28-0, Geneva's Hilton McClain Jr. hauled in a 77-yard touchdown pass from Brutus Ogilvie with under three minutes left in the third quarter.

Collins capped an 11-play, 67-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run with 10 minutes to go in the fourth.

Geneva's Logan Kent closed out the scoring with a 24-yard touchdown run with less than three minutes to play in regulation.

McGowan completed 18-of-27 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns while rushing five times for 25 yards. Beachy hauled in eight catches for 60 yards and a score, his fifth of the year. Sophomore Jalen Royal-Eiland (Youngstown, Ohio, Mineral Ridge) caught six passes for 45 yards. Grayer ran 12 times for 43 yards and a touchdown.

Sophomore Dylan Sleva (Moon Township, Pa., Moon) racked up nine tackles (4 solo) and 1.5 tackles for loss. Sophomore Dayshawn Elliott (Kissimmee, Fla., Colonial) had six tackles (4 solo) and a tackle for loss while Williams finished with four tackles (3 solo), a sack and an interception.

Gabe Trexler led the Geneva defensive unit with 17 tackles (10 solo) and 3.0 tackles for loss.

Westminster ran a season-high 75 offensive plays in the win, piling up 392 yards of offense. The Titans finished 7-of-15 on third downs and went 5-of-6 in red zone scoring. Geneva entered the game averaging a PAC-best 223.3 rushing yards per game and was limited to 82 yards on 29 attempts Saturday.

Westminster honored 14 senior members of its program and four fifth-year players before kickoff.
