WOOSTER, Ohio – Julia Redilla's penalty kick proved to the lone score, as Westminster College women's soccer squad edged The College of Wooster, 1-0, Wednesday night.
Redilla (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley HIgh), a senior midfielder, scored in the 8th minute, then first-year goalkeeper Morgan Murphy pitched the shutout for the Titans' triumph.
Wooster (2-2-2) outshot Westminster, 19-9, but Morgan was credited with 8 saves in goal for Coach Girish Thakar. The host Lady Scots sent 12 second-half shots but were turned aside during Morgan's 90-minute performance.
Wooster's Emma Jaros' shot clanked off the crossbar late in the 2nd half, while Teddi Farson's header in the match's 88th minute sailed wide.
Westminster, which enjoyed a 6-4 edge in corner kicks, improved to 4-1-1 on the young season. Sophomore forward Allie Augustine (Cortland, Ohio/Lakeview High) was credited with 3 shots on goal.
Wooster goalkeeper Amanda Flory finished with 4 saves, and leading scorer Hallie Krzys was blanked from the scoring sheet for the first time this season.
