NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The two-seeded Westminster women's basketball team won, 105-77, at home against seven-seeded Geneva in the quarterfinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament Tuesday night. The Titans' scoring outburst set a new program record for most points scored in a game.
Westminster also set a new program for most assists in a game with 29.
"I thought defensively we did a good job in the first quarter holding them to nine points and we won the first two quarters," said head coach
Rosanne Scott. "The key to us was winning the third quarter because we knew they were going to come out and make a run the way they shoot threes. We passed the ball so well tonight with each other. We had six players in double figures. We also had 29 assists, that's team basketball right there."
In the first quarter, Westminster (17-8, 13-5 PAC) orchestrated a 19-3 run, completed by sophomore
Caitlyn Condoleon's (Warren, OH / Warren JFK) layup off a dish from junior
Camden Hergenrother (Salem, OH / Cardinal Mooney). The second quarter was highlighted by a 13-3 Titan run capped by a layup from first-year
Mackenzie Powell (Harrison City, PA / Penn-Trafford). The Titans led 45-26 at intermission.
In the second half, Westminster kept the pressure on Geneva (10-15, 8-10 PAC) as its offense never skipped a beat, holding its double-digit lead for the rest of the game.
The Titans were led by Hergenrother, who scored a team-high 18 points with a career- and game-best 11 assists, to go with two blocks. Senior
Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) tallied 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Condoleon notched career-bests with 16 points and three steals. Powell recorded 15 points (tying a career-high) and two steals (a career-best). Junior
Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) chipped in with 14 points, six assists, and five boards. First-year
Jocelyn Janda (Chardon, OH / Chardon) recorded a career-high three assists. Sophomore
Mariah Vincent (Franklin, PA / Kennedy Catholic) added six points and a career-bests three rebounds. Bell controlled the boards with a game-high 14.
Hergenrother tied the program record of assists in a game (11).
"We had to get it done in transition on both ends of the floor," said Hergenrother. "We had to handle their press well, which we did. We had 29 assists, which was huge in the win. It showed in the score."
The Titans are back in action Thursday, February 24 as they host three-seeded Grove City in the PAC Semifinals. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
