GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Westminster men's basketball team erased a halftime-deficit to win, 57-45, at Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Grove City Wednesday night.
Titan senior
Daniel Ritter (North Lima, OH / South Range) tied a team-high with 12 points, including his 1,000th career point. He becomes only the 41
st player in school history to reach this milestone.
"Playing solid defense and making a couple of passes before we shot the ball from three or driving it in," said head coach
Kevin Siroki when asked what the Titans focused on in the second half. "Made some shots in the second half that we didn't make in the first and played great defense in the second half. Proud of the guys staying with it. Congrats to Dan for getting his 1,000th point!"
The turning point of the contest occurred with 15:32 left in the second half when Westminster (15-8, 12-5 PAC) began its impressive 18-0 run, including taking its first lead of the game, to go ahead 46-38 with eight minutes to go. The Titans maintained control and held the Wolverines at bay the rest of the game.
Grove City (9-14, 5-11 PAC) started the game with a 9-0 lead. The Wolverines, who never trailed in the first half, finished the first frame with a 6-0 run and led 28-21.
Ritter and sophomore
Reese Leone (Beloit, OH / West Branch) both scored a team-high 12 points each. Sophomore
Andrew Clark (New Middletown, OH / Springfield Local) registered 10 points, to go along with a game- and career-high five blocks and nine rebounds. Senior
Anthony Ritter (North Lima, OH / South Range) added seven points, while senior
Josh Hutcherson (Uniontown, OH / Uniontown Lake) and junior
Tyler James (Youngstown, OH / Warren JFK) each had six. Hutcherson led at the glass with a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Titans will close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 19 at Bethany. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
