Softball: Titans Tie School Record with 32 Wins, Sweep Franciscan

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster softball team tied a school record for wins in a season with their 32nd today following a sweep of Franciscan in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Sunday in both teams' regular season finale.

In game one, first-year Alyssa Stock (New Brighton, PA / New Brighton Area) connected on a career-high two RBIs on the day, including scoring the first run of the game off a single in the second inning. Stock added another run in the fourth inning and the Titans scored twice more in the fifth to go up 4-0. Sophomore Mackenzie Latess (New Castle, PA / Laurel) belted a two-run double to right field, scoring the final two runs for the Titans. Westminster won 6-0, its 11th shutout of the season. Junior Jasmine Woodings (Verona, PA / Penn Hills) also had a double, included in her game-high three hits. Junior Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) improved to 15-1 on the mound after throwing a two-hitter in four innings. First-year Elizabeth Malczak (Grove City, PA / Grove City) came in for relief and only allowed three hits in three scoreless innings, earning the first save of her career. Brown and Malczak both had four strikeouts.

Sophomore Mia Greco (New Castle, PA / Neshannock) put the Titans in front in game two with an RBI-double to left center, scoring junior Krystyna Burdelski (Pittsburgh, PA / Fox Chapel). Greco scored the second and eventual game-winning run later in the inning off an error from Franciscan's catcher. Franciscan (10-22, 5-11) cut into Westminster's lead with a one in the fifth inning. Malczak came in again and shut down Franciscan with a perfect two-inning performance of no hits, no runs, no walks, and two strikeouts. Sophomore Abbegail Froehlich (Pittsburgh, PA / Plum) started for Westminster, earning the first win of her career. Froehlich pitched 5.0 innings, giving up one run off five hits and striking out a career-high four.
