PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Westminster College men's lacrosse team lost, 13-12, in overtime on the road against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Chatham University on Monday.
 
Westminster (8-3, 3-2 PAC) stormed out of the gates, scoring the first five goals of the contest before Chatham (6-4, 4-1 PAC) scored in the final minute of the first period and the Titans led 5-1 after one. Titan senior Nick Trella (Moon Twp, PA / Moon Area) scored three of Westminster's five first quarter goals. Chatham responded by scoring the first three goals of the second frame to cut Westminster's lead to 5-4 with 7:27 left in the half. A goal by Titan sophomore Boyd Foster (Lincoln, RI / Lincoln) gave Westminster a 6-4 lead, however, Chatham scored with one second left in the half to cut the Titans lead to 6-5 into the halftime break.
 
Chatham outscored the Titans 3-2 in the third period and took its first lead of the contest with the first two goals of the fourth stanza to make the score 10-8 in favor of the Cougars. Chatham proceeded to score three of the next four goals and led 12-9 with just 5:51 remaining. Westminster stormed back by scoring the next three goals, including two tallies with under a minute left to play to send the contest to overtime. Chatham won the opening faceoff in the extra frame and ended the game off the stick of Nicholas Guaglione.
 
Trella led Westminster with a team and career-high three goals. Foster had a team-high two assists and tied Trella for a team-high four points. First-year Colin O'Malley (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny) collected a team-high eight ground balls and won a game-high 18 faceoffs. Junior Mike Roman (Fort Washington, PA / Germantown Academy) followed with seven ground balls and a team-high two caused turnovers. Sophomore goalkeeper Connor Doyle (Glen Aubrey, NY / Glen Aubrey) made 11 saves in net.
 
For the game, Westminster outshot Chatham (48-35) and bested the Cougars in shots on goal (31-24). Chatham edged the Titans in the ground ball department (42-37).
 
Westminster is back in action on Saturday, May 1 when it travels to Grove City (8-1, 5-0 PAC) in both team's final regular season contests at 1 p.m.
