Men’s Lacrosse: Greer and Waight Lead Titans to 28-7 Win Over Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Westminster College men's lacrosse team comfortably defeated Thiel College, 28-7, in a road Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup on Saturday.
 
The Titans jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first half, with first-year Payton Waight (Ithaca, NY / Ithaca) scoring three of those seven goals. Thiel (3-4, 1-2 PAC) scored one goal in the first quarter, but Westminster's Jimmy Sentz netted the last goal of the quarter to put the Titans up 8-1. The Tomcats scored the first goal of the second quarter before Westminster went on a 7-0 run to increase the lead to 15-2. Thiel hit back-to-back goals before halftime to set the score at 15-4 heading into the break.
 
In the second half, Thiel struck first, scoring a goal in the first minute. However, the Titans scored eight-straight to extend their lead to 23-5. Westminster tacked on five more goals from five different players in the fourth, including the last goal of the game by sophomore Nick Hubner (Pittsburgh, PA / Plum) in the final minute to put the tally to 28-7.
 
Sophomore Ryan Greer (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley)highlighted the day for Westminster (7-2, 2-1 PAC) with a school-record 14 points, including a school-record 10 assists. Waight racked up a career-high eight goals for the Titans and dished out three assists. First-year Dino Mario D'Alesio (Youngstown, OH / Cardinal Mooney) made an impact for Westminster with 11 ground balls and won 24 of 35 faceoffs, while classmate Aaron Alderette (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) caused four turnovers and collected four ground balls.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Connor Doyle (Glen Aubrey, NY / Glen Aubrey) picked up the win for the Titans with three saves in the first half. In the third quarter, junior goalie Ben Romah (Coraopolis, PA / Moon Area) recorded three saves, and first-year Zachery Tomlinson (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township) had five stops in the fourth.
 
Westminster will be back at home on Wednesday, April 21 to take on Bethany at 7:30 p.m.
