Volleyball: Titans Win Second-Straight PAC Title

Box Score

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The top-seeded Westminster volleyball team shut out No. 3 Grove City, 3-0, for their second-straight (fifth overall) Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship at home Thursday evening. Junior Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) was named the PAC All-Tournament Team's Most Outstanding Player and joined classmate Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) and first-year Lauren Lampus (Sarver, PA / Freeport Area) as the Westminster representatives on the All-Tournament Team. Steward went off with a match- and career-high 17 kills (for a three-set match), which ties for the second-most kills in program history since 3-set records were kept (since 2006). Steward also had 15 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.

Sophomore Kaylee Sciubba (Tarentum, PA / Deer Lakes) also had double-digit kills with 11 and had a match-high .579 hitting percentage, while tying a season-high with a match-high six blocks. Adelman registered nine kills, while senior Megan Steele (Corry, PA / Corry) added four. Junior Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) dished out a team-high 21 assists, while sophomore Isabelle Snyder (Centerville, PA / Maplewood) had 16 with a team-high .471 setting percentage. Lampus led the defense with a match- and career-high 23 digs. Kelly and first-year Malia Duffy (Allison Park, PA / North Allegheny) both had 15 digs. First-year Riley Lenard-Haley (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) added a career-high four blocks.

The Titans were in complete control of the first set as they never trailed. Up 15-11, Westminster went on an 8-2 run to take a double-digit, 23-13 lead. Westminster won the first set, 25-15. Grove City (7-5) took its first lead of the game in the second set at 3-2 and had its largest lead of three points multiple times with the latest at 16-13. The Wolverines led 18-17, however, the Titans finished the set strong, outscoring Grove City 8-1 for a 25-19 set two win. The Titans continued where they left off in the final set, starting off with a 6-0 lead. Grove City got within four points of the Titans' lead several times, with the latest at 13-9, however that would be the closest the Wolverines would get for the rest of the set as the Titans won the match-deciding set 25-14.

Westminster, led by 28th-year Head Coach Tammy Swearingen, finished the season 10-1 overall and a perfect 8-0 record in PAC play – only the second time Westminster has gone undefeated in conference play since playing for a PAC Championship in 2002. The Titans' other PAC Titles came in 2002, 2007, 2008, and 2019.
