NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's lacrosse team won, 20-6, over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Bethany College at home in their official conference opener on Sunday.
Westminster (6-1, 1-0 PAC) scored 20+ goals for its third consecutive game and increased its win streak to six games, the longest win streak in the conference.
The Titans held a slim 3-2 lead over Bethany (2-6, 0-2 PAC) at the end of the first quarter, before rallying to score nine out of the ten goals scored in the second frame, including three-straight tallies by sophomore
Ryan Greer (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley) in the last three minutes of the quarter, and held a commanding 12-2 lead at intermission. In the second half, Westminster continued to pour on the offense, scoring all three goals in the third period and the first three of the fourth stanza to put away the Bison.
Five Titans tallied multiple goals on the day, led by Greer with a game-high five goals (tying a career-high). Junior
Joe Rosa (Newton, NJ / Kittatinny Regional) and sophomores
Boyd Foster (Lincoln, RI / Lincoln),
Hamish Mathwin (Marion, Austrailia / Westminster) and
Nick Hubner (Pittsburgh, PA / Plum) each added a pair of goals, while Rosa and senior
Nick Trella (Moon Twp, PA / Moon Area) each tied a game-high with two assists.
On the defensive end, junior
Mike Roman (Fort Washington, PA / Germantown Academy) dominated the midfield, tying a career-high with 10 ground balls and also earned six caused turnovers (both game-highs). First-year
Colin O'Malley (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny) added nine ground balls and won a game-high 16 faceoffs. Senior
Jack Granahan (Aldie, VA / John Champe) added three caused turnovers. Sophomore
Connor Doyle (Glen Aubrey, NY / Glen Aubrey) got the win after making a pair of saves in the first half. First-year goalkeepers
Devon Harrity (Hummelstown, PA / Lower Dauphin) and
Bradley Green (Landisville, PA / Hempfield) commanded the cage in the third and fourth quarters, respectively. Green made a career-high five stops in the fourth frame.
Westminster will look for its seventh-straight victory on Wednesday, April 14 when it takes on perennial conference foe Saint Vincent College inside the UPMC Sports Complex at 7:30 p.m.
