GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Westminster College men's soccer team lost, 2-1, in double overtime against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Grove City College on the road late Wednesday evening.
In the first half, Westminster (1-3, 1-3 PAC) tallied the first goal off the game off the foot of senior
Nick Iregui (Gig Harbor, WA / Charles Wright Academy) to take a 1-0 lead in the 32
nd minute. With the goal, Iregui notched the 104
th point of his distinguished career, extending his school-record mark.
In the second half, Grove City (3-1, 3-1 PAC) tied the game up with a goal in the 78
th minute and sent the contest into overtime. In the first overtime period, both teams fired off one shot apiece, but neither could break through and the game went to a second overtime. In the second overtime frame, titan junior
Tyler Caterino (Monessen, PA / Monessen) put a shot on net, but Wolverine goalkeeper Luke Greenway made the save and seven minutes later, Grove City won the game with a goal in the 108
th minute.
Westminster outshot Grove City (19-14) for the game and bested the Wolverines in shots on goals (7-5). The Titans also collected more corner kicks (7-5) in the contest. Titan sophomore goalkeeper
Jad Jadallah (Canfield, OH / Canfield) made three saves in the complete game effort.
Westminster will return to the pitch on Wednesday, April 7 when it takes on Waynesburg University in a conference matchup inside the UPMC Sports Complex under the lights. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
