WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster volleyball team shut out Washington & Jefferson, 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-13), on the road Tuesday evening.
On offense, Westminster (2-0) was led by junior
Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft), who had a match-high 15 kills, and classmate
Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo), who earned 13 kills and registered an incredible .619 (13-21) hitting percentage. Junior
Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) dished out a match-high 22 assists. Adelman also had a match-high six blocks, two more than the entire W&J team. Steward also helped lead the defense tying a match-high with first-year
Malia Duffy (Allison Park, PA / North Allegheny) with 13 digs. First-year
Lauren Lampus (Sarver, PA / Freeport Area) registered nine digs and six kills. Lampus and sophomore
Isabelle Snyder (Centerville, PA / Maplewood) both tied a match-high with three service aces. Snyder added 17 assists.
Washington & Jefferson (1-1) was up 3-2 in set one, however, the Titans started to pull away with a 9-0 run to lead 11-3. The Presidents once again had an early lead in the second set, this time up 8-6. The Titans once again answered with a run, this time 11-2 and had a comfortable 17-10 lead. Westminster finished set two with an 8-2 run, sealed by a service ace by Lampus. The trend continued in the final stanza, with W&J having an early 4-3 lead and Westminster getting in front and surged ahead with a long run. In the final set, the long run was of 10, finishing with the Titans leading 20-10.
The Titans will travel to Geneva (2-0) on Saturday, March 6 with a 10 a.m. start time.
