NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster football team won, 41-6, over Saint Vincent in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest at home on Saturday.
Westminster (7-2, 7-1 PAC) had a comfortable 21-0 lead with two minutes to go in the first half. Senior quarterback
Cole Konieczka (Coraopolis, PA / Moon Area) connected with sophomore
Tylon Eilam (Sharon, PA / Sharon Area) for a 49-yard touchdown pass for the game's first touchdown with 8:40 to go in the first quarter. Junior
Nicholas Treloar (New Castle, PA / New Castle) joined the list of Westminster defensive starters getting in on the offensive action as he scored his first career touchdown with a 1-yard run with less than a minute left in the first quarter. Senior
Vincent Giles (Lexington Park, MD / Great Mills) scored Westminster's third-straight touchdown with a career-long 27-yard run with two minutes remaining in the half. Saint Vincent (4-5, 3-5 PAC) spoiled the shutout when Billy Beck ran it in from 13 yards out with 11 seconds left in the first half. Westminster led 21-6 at intermission.
Titan senior defensive end
Brayden Thimons (Natrona Heights, PA / Highlands) shined in the second half crossing the goal line twice; returned an interception 27 yards for a touchdown on the Bearcats' second play of the second half (his first career interception) and caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Konieczka after a mishandled field goal attempt. Ryan Gomes (Tampa, FL / Walter L. Sickles) capped off the scoring with a 23-yard touchdown run in the beginning of the fourth.
Gomes ran for a game- and career-high 123 yards – the first 100-yard rushing game of his collegiate career. As a team, Westminster ran for a season-high 169 yards. Titan senior
Frank Antuono (New Castle, PA / Neshannock) led the defense with a game- and career-high 11 tackles and tied junior
Jarred Kohl (York, Pa / York Catholic) for a game-high 2.5 tackles for a loss (career-bests for both). Kohl also had a sack, forced fumble, and fumble recovery. Thimons was just as effective on defense with a sack, seven total tackles, two tackles for a loss, a blocked extra-point, a pass breakup, and his pick-six. Antuono, Kohl, and senior
Bryce Thomas (Saint Marys, GA / Camden County) all forced a fumble. Westminster recovered four Bearcat fumbles.
Members of the 1981 undefeated football team were recognized at halftime. The 1981 team had a record of 9-0, were the National Semifinalists, and the eighth undefeated team in program history.
The Titans are back on the field Saturday, Nov. 13 as they host Geneva on Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
