GREENVILLE, Pa. – The No. 24-naitonally ranked Westminster College Titans won, 49-14, at Thiel College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Saturday afternoon.
 
Westminster (3-1, 3-0 PAC) scored a touchdown on its first three drives. Junior running back Ryan Gomes (Tampa, FL / Walter L. Sickles) got the scoring started with a 6-yard rushing touchdown. Senior quarterback Cole Konieczka (Coraopolis, PA / Moon Area) followed with a 35-yard touchdown pass to junior Kevin Brown (Pittsburgh PA / Plum) and a 33-yard toss to Jalen Washington (Orlando, FL / Dr. Phillips) – both first career touchdowns for Brown and Washington. Titan junior Shamar Love (Bridgeton, NJ / Bridgeton) returned a fumble a hard-earned 13 yards to pay dirt on the Tomcats' next drive, and just like that, the Titans led 28-0 with still four minutes to play in the first quarter.
 
Thiel (0-5, 0-4 PAC) spoiled the first-half shutout with a touchdown later in the first quarter and Westminster led 28-7 after one.
 
In the second quarter, junior tight tend Damon Maul (Portage, PA / Cambria Heights) made a diving 10-yard touchdown catch from Konieczka. An interception by senior defensive back Bryce Thomas (Saint Marys, GA / Camden County) on Thiel's ensuing drive set up Konieczka's fourth touchdown pass of the half – this time a 20-yarder to sophomore Matthew Randza (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk). On the Tomcats' very next drive, Titan junior Saadiq Ferrell (Waldorf, MD / Thomas Stone) recovered a fumble in the end zone and Westminster led 49-7 with 8:49 still to play in the half. Westminster led by the same at halftime. Thiel scored the lone points in the second half with a touchdown in the fourth.
 
Konieczka tied a career-high four touchdowns passes (all in the first half) to four different receivers, going 10-of-15 for 165 yards. Senior Vincent Giles (Lexington Park, MD / Great Mills) led the Titans on the ground with 40 yards on 10 carries. Sophomore Tylon Eilam (Sharon, PA / Sharon) caught a game-high five catches for 33 yards. Junior Luca Botti (Ellwood City, PA / Ellwood City) led the Titan defense with four tackles, to go along with an interception. Thomas's interception was his second of the season.
 
The Titan defense halted Thiel's rushing game to -10 yards. Westminster outgained the Tomcats, 395-89.
 
The Titans will next play at Carnegie Mellon Saturday, Oct. 9 with a 7 p.m. start.
