CLERMONT, Fla. – The Westminster College softball team won, 5-0, against Suffolk University (MA) in their final game at The Spring Games on Friday.
The game was called off in the bottom of the fifth inning as a result of the Presidents' Athletic Conference's (PAC) decision to indefinitely suspend all varsity athletically-related activities due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Westminster (2-7) and Suffolk (3-7) remained scoreless through two innings. In the bottom of the third inning, the Titans scored first when junior
Haley Bedalota (Aliquippa, PA / Hopewell) tallied an RBI-double to score senior
Lauren McNany (Emlenton, PA / Allegheny-Clarion Valley) to make the score 1-0. On the next at-bat, first-year
Alexis Yates (Oakdale, PA / South Fayette) singled up the middle to score sophomore
Jasmine Woodings (Verona, PA / Penn Hills) to make the score 2-0. The Titans boosted their lead to 4-0 when senior
Victoria Pezzuolo (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) reached on an error to score two runs. The Titans scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning courtesy of sacrifice fly by Pezzuolo before the game was deemed complete.
Yates led the Titans with a pair of hits to go along with a pair of runs scored. Bedalota had one hit, one run scored and one RBI, while Pezzuolo had a game-high three RBIs. Sophomore
Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) tossed a complete-game shutout, only giving up four hits and recording three strikeouts.
