WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team fell to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Washington and Jefferson College by a score of 55-48 on the road Wednesday evening, thus snapping the Titans' six-game winning streak.
 
Westminster (17-4, 10-2 PAC) jumped out to a quick 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, which included a 10-2 run to start the game. Washington and Jefferson (13-7, 8-4 PAC) responded in the second period, outscoring the Titans 13-6 to take a 21-20 lead heading into the halftime break. W&J extended its lead to 40-35 at the end of the third. In the fourth, Westminster trailed 48-42 with 7:03 left in the game before both teams hit a cold spell offensively. This lasted until the 3:51 mark of the fourth when Titan junior Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) knocked down a two-pointer to make the score 48-44. Greaves notched two free throws to make the score a one-possession game and on the next possession, Titan first-year Camden Hergenrother (Salem, OH / Cardinal Mooney) crossed over her defender and buried a jumper to tie the game at 48-48 with 1:11 remaining. W&J utilized a layup and five free throws over the last minute to win the game.
 
Westminster shot 27.3% (15-55) from the field, while W&J had a 24.6% (14-57) field goal percentage. The Titans also shot 83.3% (15-18) from the charity stripe. The Presidents' bested the Titans on the glass, 48-41. Westminster forced 13 turnovers and scored nine points off of those miscues. The Titans also recorded nine steals and eight blocks. The game endured five lead changes and was tied seven times.
 
Greaves and Hergenrother led the way with 10 points a-piece. Greaves also finished 6-7 from the free throw line and earned three steals, while Hergenrother grabbed seven rebounds and also had three steals. Senior Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) registered a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with her nine points, while sophomore Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) totaled eight points and knocked down a pair of threes. Fromknecht also had a game-high five blocks.
 
Westminster will be back on the court on Saturday, February 8 when it takes on Saint Vincent College on the road in a conference matchup at 4 p.m.
